Horticultural plant breeding is the backbone of horticulture courses. The core of this course is the basic principles, approaches and methods of horticultural plant breeding, and it expounds the basic principles and methods of cultivating new varieties. This course mainly covers germplasm resources, variety introduction and selection, sexual hybridization, use of heterosis, clonal hybridization, stress resistance breeding, biotechnology in horticultural varieties improvement, etc. It focuses on the basic principles, methods and technology of the various major breeding approaches. Through the study of this course, students should not only master the basic principles of cultivating new varieties of horticultural plants, but also the basic methods and techniques of it, and should understand and grasp the breeding characteristics of different horticultural plants as fruits, vegetables and flowers.
